How to deposit at BK8 from Cambodia

One transfer, from an app you already have, into a balance held in US dollars. This page covers every rail we accept, the caps and fees each bank charges on the Bakong network, and the one currency mistake that turns a deposit into a support ticket.

What a BK8 deposit looks like from Cambodia

A deposit here is one movement: money leaves a Cambodian bank app or wallet and lands in a BK8 balance denominated in US dollars. Our registration config pins the Cambodia region to a single currency, USD, and riel appears nowhere in our currency table — the string KHR has zero occurrences in it. You are funding a dollar account. Riel still runs the shops at the everyday 4,000 to the dollar — ACLEDA's own board on 10 September 2026 quoted 4,048 buy and 4,062 sell — but riel does not open a BK8 balance. Three bank codes are configured for Cambodian dollar deposits: ABA, ACLEDA and Maybank.

Opening the account is light: we verify a mobile number under the 855 country code and an email address, and nothing heavier at that stage — no birthdate check and no bank verification, both of which we do switch on for other currencies. Identity verification runs through Sumsub and is enabled on both Cambodian currency codes, so treat it as something that arrives at some point rather than never. Open the account first, then fund it.

The rails, and the one already on your phone

Cambodia never built a card culture. It built an app culture on a national payment rail. ABA Mobile alone has passed ten million downloads in a country of roughly 17 million people, and ABA PAY debits straight from your ABA account or card with no top-up step in between — at an online checkout it appears as a payment method rather than a QR to scan. ACLEDA moves money out of a Bakong account free of charge. Wing runs more than 12,000 agents where cashing out costs nothing, from 2,000 riel to millions. TrueMoney's agents handle cash-in or cash-out against accounts at over sixty Bakong member institutions by scanning your KHQR code, in riel or dollars. Underneath all four sit Bakong, operated by the National Bank of Cambodia, and KHQR, the national QR standard Bakong settles.

Depositing, step by step

The sequence is the same whichever bank you start from, and repays doing slowly once. The screen people rush is the currency selector — which is the screen that decides whether the money arrives. Read the order below, then open the cashier.

  1. Log in and open the cashier from the account menu. Khmer is the default language for this region, so switch to English there if you would rather read the flow that way — we run five languages for Cambodia.
  2. Pick the rail. ABA, ACLEDA and Maybank are the bank codes configured for Cambodian dollar deposits; wallets and crypto sit alongside them.
  3. Copy the account details or scan the code exactly as shown, reference included. A transfer sent without the reference becomes a support ticket rather than a deposit.
  4. In ABA Mobile the path is Transfers, then Transfer to Local Bank – Bakong, then the source account, the recipient bank and account number, the currency, the amount, and confirm with your ABA Mobile PIN.
  5. Choose USD, not KHR — and read the next section before you argue with that one.
  6. Confirm, screenshot the receipt, and let the balance update before deciding what the money goes on.

The currency rule that breaks the most deposits

Transfers on the Bakong rail cannot cross currencies. The currency of the transfer and the currency of the account have to match, and there is no in-app conversion anywhere in the flow. Your BK8 balance is in dollars, so it must be fed from a dollar account. Send រៀល and you have not made a slow deposit, you have made a stuck one. Cambodia makes this easy to get wrong: 83.4% of broad money here was denominated in US dollars at the end of 2025, most people hold both, and the app shows both. Read the account line, not the balance you remember. Bakong itself sets no cap on how many transfers you make in a day — the value ceilings come from each member bank individually.

Two consequences. If what you hold is the National Bank's own Bakong wallet rather than a bank account on the rail, its balance ceiling is 10,000,000 riel or 2,500 dollars — a transit account, not somewhere to park a bankroll. And the return leg, Bakong wallet into an ABA account, is free — the cheapest route home for anything you take off the table.

Choosing between ABA, ACLEDA, Wing and TrueMoney

Which one you use is mostly decided by which is already installed; all four are Bakong members, so the money arrives the same way regardless. The real differences sit in the branch and agent network behind each name — which matters on the day you want notes in your hand. ABA is the largest commercial bank in the country by assets, deposits, loans and profitability, established in 1996 as Advanced Bank of Asia and a subsidiary of National Bank of Canada since 2014, with 106 branches and over 2,000 self-banking machines — and the widest headroom of the four, since an ABA transfer to another Bakong member runs to 60,000 dollars a day. ACLEDA lets money leave a Bakong account free, to 10,000 dollars a day. Wing was built agent-first — 27 branch offices against more than 12,000 agents, around 80% of them women — and TrueMoney is the wallet you can also load with cash across a 7-Eleven counter.

Our ABA Pay walkthrough runs the whole flow from cashier to confirmation. Think about the exit before the entrance: the rail you fund with is usually the rail you are paid back on, so read how withdrawals work while the account is still empty. An ATM, meanwhile, is the expensive way to hold cash here — operator fees run roughly 4 to 10 US dollars a withdrawal.

Deposit with ABA or ACLEDA

Both banks are configured on BK8 for Cambodian accounts, so money moves on rails you already use every day.

KHQR and Bakong, explained in a minute

KHQR is the code you scan; Bakong is the rail underneath it. Holding the two apart explains why one square of black and white works for everybody. Before July 2022, roughly fifty Cambodian bank apps each printed their own incompatible QR at the counter. KHQR replaced the lot with a single merchant-presented national standard, and all 37 Bakong participants supported it on launch day. It carries riel and dollars alike. Bakong now counts 63 official members with seven more integrating, and — whatever you have read — it is not a central bank digital currency: around 80% of what moves across it is US dollars held as commercial-bank rather than central-bank liabilities.

  • Registering for Bakong takes a National ID card or passport plus a local phone number, and only individual savings or current accounts qualify — joint and fixed-deposit accounts cannot register.
  • Members are not only banks. TrueMoney, Wing, eMoney, Pi Pay, Ly Hour Pay Pro and BongLoy sit on the same rail as ABA and ACLEDA — which is why a wallet and a bank account talk to each other.
  • The consumer Bakong app launched in 2020, designed to pull roughly 70% of the population — the unbanked — into the formal financial system.
  • Cross-border KHQR corridors exist, but they are built for a Cambodian scanning a merchant abroad and they debit a riel account. Not a route into a dollar gaming balance.
  • KHQR and Bakong each have a page here with the screens laid out in order.

Crypto deposits, and why the network matters more than the coin

Crypto sits alongside the banks in our Cambodian payment set, and the only choice on that screen that genuinely costs you money is the network you send on. On the figures published for our Cambodia payment methods, USDT on TRC20 settles in around three minutes for a network fee of two to three USDT, while the same USDT on ERC20 takes five to fifteen minutes and costs eight to ten. On a hundred-dollar deposit that is the difference between a rounding error and a tenth of it. Bitcoin and Ethereum are accepted as well. The National Bank of Cambodia replaced its blanket prohibition on cryptoassets with a permission-based regime under a Prakas issued on 26 December 2024. Our USDT page covers the network choice.

The first deposit, and what it triggers

The first deposit is the only one the welcome offer is measured against: +1500% on it, plus 250 free spins. Registration claims nothing on its own; the match is calculated from money that lands. Decide the amount before you open the cashier rather than inside it, and set a deposit limit in the same sitting. The welcome offer page walks the match through line by line. On who is holding the money: BK8 is operated by Mettlemind Tech Ltd., registration number 15779, under licence ALSI-202504032-FI2 from the Government of the Autonomous Island of Anjouan, with games audited by BMM Test Labs, GLI and iTech Labs. When the amount is settled, make the deposit.

Where Cambodian law actually stands

Gambling by Cambodian nationals has been unlawful since the 1996 Law on the Suppression of Gambling, online gambling was banned with effect from 2020, and the Law on the Management of Commercial Gambling makes an online licence possible only as an integral part of a land-based casino licence. No offshore operator holds a Cambodian one, ourselves included.

Questions Cambodian players actually ask

Can I deposit in Cambodian riel?
No. A Cambodian BK8 balance runs in US dollars — our region here is configured to a single currency and KHR appears nowhere in our currency table. Bakong will not convert on the way either, because the transfer currency and the account currency have to match with no in-app FX. Send from a dollar account, not a riel one.
Why has my deposit not arrived yet?
Three causes cover most of it. The transfer went out in riel toward a dollar balance, and Bakong does not convert. The reference was dropped or retyped, so nothing matched it at our end. Or the amount crossed a cap your own bank sets rather than one Bakong sets. Keep the receipt screenshot and support can trace it.
Which rail is fastest, ABA or a wallet?
For most people ABA Pay, because it debits your ABA account or card with no top-up step and appears at an online checkout as a payment method rather than a QR scan. A wallet wins when you are starting from cash: TrueMoney's 10,000 agents will cash in against more than sixty Bakong member institutions on a single KHQR scan.
Is USDT cheaper than a bank transfer?
It depends entirely on the network. On the figures published for our Cambodia payment methods, USDT on TRC20 settles in about three minutes for two to three USDT in network fee, while ERC20 takes five to fifteen minutes and costs eight to ten. Against an ACLEDA Bakong transfer that is free up to 2,500 dollars, the bank rail is usually the cheaper one.
Do I have to verify my identity before I can deposit?
Cambodian accounts open on a verified mobile number under the 855 country code and a verified email address — no birthdate check and no bank verification at that stage, which we do require on some other currencies. Identity verification runs through Sumsub and is enabled on both Cambodian currency codes, so expect it during the life of the account rather than never.
Can I use KHQR from any Cambodian bank?
KHQR is a single national standard rather than one bank's code, which is the whole point of it: all 37 Bakong participants supported it on launch day in July 2022, and membership has since grown to 63 institutions with seven more integrating. Wallets count too — Wing, TrueMoney, eMoney and Pi Pay sit on the same rail as ABA and ACLEDA.
