Depositing with ABA Pay and ABA Bank

ABA is one of exactly three bank codes we configure for Cambodian deposits, and ABA Mobile has passed ten million Android downloads in a country of about seventeen million people. Here is how to move dollars from it into a BK8 account — the menus, the ceilings and the fees.

Why we point Cambodian players at ABA first

ABA Bank is Cambodia's largest commercial bank by assets, deposits, loans and profitability — that is the National Bank of Cambodia's own supervision reporting for 2021 to 2025, not a slogan off a billboard. It was founded in 1996 as Advanced Bank of Asia Limited, runs 106 branches and more than 2,000 self-banking machines, and has been a subsidiary of National Bank of Canada since 2014. The figure that decides the argument, though, is the app: ABA Mobile has passed ten million downloads on Android alone, in a country of roughly seventeen million people. Acceptance follows the app: the sticker on the counter of a coffee shop off Norodom or a phone stall in Toul Tom Poung is a familiar shape, and the merchant count behind it is in the hundreds of thousands. On our side the picture is just as short: ABA is one of three bank codes we configure for Cambodian dollar deposits, alongside ACLEDA and Maybank. When a player asks which rail to use, the honest answer is the one already on your phone. Our deposit overview lines all of them up side by side.

ABA Pay and an ABA transfer are two different things

People use the two names interchangeably and then get confused at the cashier, so it is worth separating them once. ABA PAY is ABA's QR-based cashless payment method. Money is debited straight from your ABA account or card — there is no wallet to pre-load and no top-up step in the middle. In a shop the sequence is: tap ABA PAY on the ABA Mobile main screen, scan the merchant's QR on the POS terminal screen or a printed code, choose which account or card to pay from, confirm, and an instant notification follows. Online it behaves differently — ABA PAY appears as a payment method on the merchant's checkout page rather than asking you to scan anything. ABA puts acceptance at more than 200,000 merchants across Cambodia. A bank transfer is a separate menu inside the same app, it moves money to an account number rather than to a merchant, and it rides the Bakong rail. Both start in ABA Mobile. They are not interchangeable, and the cashier tells you which one it wants.

Dollars only, and why that is not negotiable

Your BK8 balance runs in US dollars. That is not a preference we picked, it is how the platform is built for this market. The two internal currency codes we use for Cambodia, KHUSD and KHEUR, resolve to US dollars and euros, and the string KHR appears nowhere in our platform configuration — zero occurrences. Our registration config restricts the Cambodia region to a single currency, USD. There is no riel account to open. Now set that beside the rule that governs the rail underneath ABA: cross-currency transfers are not allowed. The transfer currency and the account currency must be the same, and a Bakong transfer carries no in-app FX step. Sending riel at a dollar destination does not quietly convert — it stops. That is a common way a Cambodian deposit stalls, and it is a plumbing rule rather than anything we impose. The country already thinks in dollars anyway: 83.4% of broad money was denominated in US dollars at the end of 2025, with riel doing the sub-dollar change.

Send dollars from a dollar account

The shop convention is 4,000 riel to the dollar, but ACLEDA's board on 10 September 2026 read 4,048 buy and 4,062 sell. That gap is why a figure you converted in your head rarely matches the figure that lands. Skip the arithmetic: pick the USD account in ABA Mobile and send the number you actually mean.

Making the deposit, step by step

Nothing here takes long once the account exists, but the order matters — the currency check belongs at the start, not after a failed transfer. Have ABA Mobile open on one screen and the cashier on the other, and the whole thing is done between two songs. Cambodian accounts need a mobile number under the 855 country code and an email address verified before money moves; we do not ask for a birthdate or bank verification at sign-up. Identity checks on Cambodian accounts run through Sumsub, the same KYC provider we use on nine of our ten currencies, so expect that step to arrive at some point rather than never.

  1. Open ABA Mobile and check which account you are about to spend from. It has to be the US dollar one — a riel account cannot fund a dollar destination and nothing in the chain will convert for you.
  2. Sign in and open the cashier. If the account does not exist yet, the form wants a mobile number under the 855 country code, an email address, a username and a password.
  3. Choose ABA. It is one of three bank codes we configure for Cambodian deposits, next to ACLEDA and Maybank, and the cashier shows you what the payment needs.
  4. If it hands you a transfer: in ABA Mobile go to Transfers, then Transfer to Local Bank - Bakong, pick your source ABA account, choose the recipient bank and enter the account number, select USD, enter the amount and confirm with your ABA Mobile PIN.
  5. If it hands you a QR instead: tap ABA PAY on the main screen, scan the code, choose the account or card to pay from, and confirm.
  6. Wait for the ABA push notification before closing the app. It is your receipt, and it is the first thing anyone will ask you for if the balance looks slow.
  7. Open the cashier — and if this is the first deposit on the account, the +1500% match and 250 free spins attach to it and to nothing later.

Ceilings and fees worth knowing before you send

Most deposits never come near any of these numbers, but knowing where the walls are stops you from discovering one at eleven at night. Out of ABA to another Bakong member bank you can send up to 60,000 USD, or 240,000,000 riel, per transaction and per day — a ceiling no recreational player will ever touch. Money coming into ABA from another member bank is free of charge with no stated limit. The tighter numbers all belong to the National Bank of Cambodia's own Bakong wallet, which is a different object from your ABA bank account: it carries a hard balance ceiling of 2,500 USD, and the fee bands below apply when you push money into it. Going the other way, a Bakong wallet emptying back into an ABA account is free.

In riel the same wallet bands read 4,000 to 200,000 free, 200,100 to 2,000,000 at 2,000 riel, and 2,000,100 to 4,000,000 at 4,000 riel. The dollar bands are $1 to $50 free, $50.01 to $500 at fifty cents, and $500.01 to $1,000 at one dollar. Every figure on this table belongs to ABA, published on ABA's own transfer pages — read it there before you send, because a bank's schedule is the bank's to change.

Deposit with ABA or ACLEDA

Both banks are configured on BK8 for Cambodian accounts, so money moves on rails you already use every day.

Where ABA sits inside Bakong and KHQR

Understanding the layer cake makes every payment page on this site shorter. Bakong is the mobile payment and banking system initiated and operated by the National Bank of Cambodia, with 63 official members plus seven institutions still integrating — ABA, ACLEDA, Wing Bank, Canadia and Sathapana among them. It was built explicitly to bring the roughly 70% of the population outside the formal banking system into it, and the consumer app arrived in 2020. It is not a central bank digital currency, whatever you have read: around 80% of its payments are in US dollars and the balances are commercial-bank liabilities, which makes it a tokenised deposit platform rather than a CBDC. KHQR is the face of it — one national QR standard, launched in early July 2022 with all 37 Bakong participants supporting it on day one, replacing a mess of roughly 50 incompatible bank QR codes at the checkout counter. ABA QR is a single dual-currency code that takes riel or dollars from ABA Mobile users and from customers of any other KHQR bank, and it is powered by Bakong underneath. There is more on the Bakong rail and on scanning KHQR.

When the money starts as cash

Plenty of Cambodian income is still physical, and a deposit that begins as a stack of notes has one more hop to make. Cash into a Bakong wallet at ABA is available at exactly one location — the Head Office Operational Hall on Preah Sihanouk Boulevard in Phnom Penh — where cash-in runs 2,000 to 6,000 riel or $0.50 to $1.50 depending on the amount, and cash-out is 2,000 riel or fifty cents. Outside the capital, the agent networks are the practical answer. Wing Bank App users cash out free at more than 12,000 Wing Agents nationwide, no fee and no minimum, from a couple of thousand riel upward. A TrueMoney agent can cash in or out for accounts at over 60 Bakong member institutions simply by scanning your KHQR — 10,000 agents nationwide, in riel or dollars, with a paper receipt and a push notification in your bank app. Move the dollars into ABA, then deposit. If ACLEDA is your main account instead, that page has its own fee table.

  • ATM withdrawal fees in Cambodia run roughly 4 to 10 USD depending on the bank; ABA sits at the upper end, commonly cited around 6 to 10 USD.
  • The standard per-transaction ATM limit is 500 USD at ABA, ACLEDA, Canadia and CPBank.
  • Most machines dispense dollars and often large notes — expect 50 or 100 USD bills, which is worth planning around.
  • Riel banknotes in frequent use run 100 to 50,000; there are no coins in practical circulation, which is why riel handles change under a dollar.

What happens after the deposit lands

The balance appears in dollars and the lobby opens. Our Cambodian leaderboard splits play into seven categories — Slots, Bingo, Casino, ESportsbook, Sports, Fishing and Lottery — which is also a fair map of where a first session tends to go. Withdrawals come back down the same kind of rail the deposit used, so the dollar account you sent from is the one to keep in good order; the withdrawal page covers the sequence. On the boring but important side: the company behind the platform is Mettlemind Tech Ltd, registration number 15779, licensed by the Government of the Autonomous Island of Anjouan under ALSI-202504032-FI2. The games are audited by BMM Test Labs, GLI and iTech Labs, fraud screening runs on iovation and ThreatMetrix, and GamCare and BeGambleAware sit on the responsible-gambling side. Our official Cambodian domain is bk8khr.com — worth one glance at the address bar before a password goes anywhere. When the ABA app is open and the dollar account is picked, fund the account and the rest takes about a minute.

Questions Cambodian players actually ask

Can I deposit at BK8 with ABA Pay?
ABA is one of three bank codes we configure for Cambodian deposits, with ACLEDA and Maybank as the other two. Whether the cashier presents it as an ABA PAY checkout method or as a bank transfer over Bakong depends on the screen you are given — both start in ABA Mobile and both debit straight from your ABA account with no wallet to pre-load first.
Why did my riel transfer fail?
Because cross-currency transfers are not allowed on these rails. The transfer currency and the account currency have to match, and a Bakong transfer has no in-app FX step in it. Your BK8 balance is held in US dollars — Cambodia is a single-currency region on our platform and riel does not appear in its configuration at all — so send from your USD account at ABA.
How much can I move out of ABA in one day?
To another Bakong member bank, up to 60,000 USD or 240,000,000 riel per transaction and per day. Into the National Bank of Cambodia's own Bakong wallet it is much tighter: 1,000 USD a transaction, 2,500 USD a day and 20,000 USD a month, with the wallet itself capped at a 2,500 USD balance. Ordinary deposits sit nowhere near either ceiling.
Do I need the Bakong app as well as ABA Mobile?
No. Bakong is the rail underneath, not an app you have to install — when you scan a KHQR code inside ABA Mobile the payment routes through Bakong regardless. The separate NBC wallet is a different object with its own ceiling and its own fee bands, and most players never open it. ABA Mobile alone is enough.
What does an ABA deposit cost me?
The charges on this leg are ABA's, and ABA publishes them itself: incoming transfers from other Bakong member banks are free with no stated limit, while pushing money into an NBC Bakong wallet is free to $50, then fifty cents up to $500 and a dollar up to $1,000. In riel those bands are free to 200,000, then 2,000 riel, then 4,000 riel. Check ABA's transfer page for the current version before a large send.
I am not in Phnom Penh and my money is cash. What then?
Use an agent. Wing Bank App users cash out at more than 12,000 Wing Agents nationwide with no fee and no minimum, and a TrueMoney agent will cash in or out for accounts at over 60 Bakong member institutions just by scanning your KHQR, at 10,000 locations in riel or dollars. Get the dollars into ABA, then deposit from the app.
